QUALICUM BEACH, B.C., : LetThemEatGolf.ca, a non-partisan record of what Qualicum Beach Council funded, cut and postponed in its 2022–2026 term, has launched a podcast. The first three episodes are free at LetThemEatGolf.ca/podcast, on Apple Podcasts and on Spotify, ahead of the October 17 election.
Each episode follows one decision from start to finish:
- The Commons (17 minutes). In April 2026, the Town gave the tenants of Qualicum Commons, home to two daycares and a school for autistic and neurodivergent students, three months to leave. How it got there, and what happens when the lease runs out in June 2027.
- The Golf Course (18 minutes). The Town agreed to pay $8.5 million for the Eaglecrest Golf Course in 2025. The project budget is now $21.2 million, and it counts on land sales that haven’t happened yet.
- Pickled (21 minutes). In April 2023, Council promised land and half of $170,000 for four pickleball courts if the club raised the other half. Three and a half years, four sites and one golf course later, nothing is built.
The Mayor, councillors, Town staff and residents are heard in their own words, in clips from Town Hall meetings, Council meetings and public hearings. Every source is linked in the show notes, and each episode has a full transcript on the site.
The narrator’s voice is AI-generated, made with ElevenLabs. The scripts were drafted with AI tools from public records and checked against each document, in the same way as the rest of the site. Listeners who find a mistake are asked to write in, and corrections are made in public, with the date.
On September 25, LetThemEatGolf.ca announced that a Qualicum Beach resident had used AI to read Council records and fact-check candidates.
