What it is
Saahtlam Park is the waterfront park formerly called St. Andrews. It took the name Saahtlam, gifted by the Qualicum First Nation, by Council resolution in September 2022.
The Town paid for a detailed park plan in 2023 and endorsed it in July 2024. An elevated concrete walkway was one of the capital items that came out of that work, carried as scoping sheet 25-CAP-PI-03.
On December 11, 2024 Council resolved that the walkway not be advanced, and that its scoping sheet be closed.
What happened
- July 19, 2023Council awards the Saahtlam Park detailed design work to Lanarc Consultants for $23,545. Unanimous.
- July 17, 2024Council endorses the Saahtlam Park Detailed Plan dated April 19, 2024. Unanimous.
- December 11, 2024Council resolves that the elevated concrete walkway not be advanced, and closes the scoping sheet.
Why it matters
- The Saahtlam Park playground, a separate item, was moved from 2026 to 2028 by the Eaglecrest funding plan in July 2025 and kept there in the December 2025 budget.
- Closing a scoping sheet means the item is off the list of projects Council tracks. It would have to be proposed again from the start.
