Mischa Oak Questionnaire
- Accurate × 10
- Misleading × 1
Most of Oak’s specific claims hold up: the plans pushed back for Eaglecrest, the cost of keeping the course up, the airport subsidy, the $500 Christmas Market debate and the months-late release of closed-meeting decisions. The Town’s supplier lists back up his $2 million figure for consultants. He is right that the Town has no public long-term plan for replacing its infrastructure; its own budget says that plan is still to come. On public input, he is right that this Council kept the rule against spoken comments at Council meetings and never voted on bringing them back, though the rule dates from 2020, under the previous Council. He overstates the tree bylaw: it adds permits and costs, but it has a permit for trees that are a fire hazard, and doesn’t stop homeowners from dealing with them.

Mischa Oak Website
- Accurate × 2
Oak’s website is mostly promises. The two facts it states hold up: thousands of residents have no family doctor, and Council meetings often run three hours or more. The record behind his complaints about closed meetings and consultant spending is the same one that backed his questionnaire answers. His voting date and donation rules are right.

Mischa Oak Flyer
- Accurate × 1
Oak’s flyer is mostly promises. What it states as fact mostly repeats his website, and the record there hasn’t changed: the Town spends about $2 million a year on consultants, and major decisions were made in closed meetings and released months later. He is right that arts and culture have no current plan: the Town’s only cultural plan ran from 2012 to 2017. His voting dates and place are right.
Public record
He hasn’t run in a Qualicum Beach election before and holds no Town committee or board seat. Elections BC lists no penalty against him.
In May 2025, as secretary of The Old School House Arts Centre (TOSH), he was one of the society’s officers who asked Council for mid-year funding. PQB News reported him asking for “an interim investment of $29,000 for the remainder of this year.” Council later gave TOSH $50,000 in one-time funding for 2026, and put its request for $75,000 a year off to 2027. Our page on the TOSH request has the details.
He says he stepped down from the TOSH board in spring 2026 to avoid a conflict of interest with his run for Council. We found no public document that gives the date.
